Breakfast Club runs every morning from 8:10am to provide kids a nourishing breakfast in case they missed it at home, and has been a cultural hub of our school for over 10 years.
Woodlupine students enjoy a range of foods including juice, milo, cheese toasties, cereal, banana bread and tinned fruit, as well as a sandwich and piece of fruit for lunch, if required. On occasion, we even have scrambled eggs on toast! The students learn to wash, dry and put away their dishes and the use of appropriate manners; skills that they can use at home. Woodlupine’s Breakfast club isn’t just about the food; it’s about connecting people, learning manners and social norms and providing that ‘safe’ environment that every child needs.
Our students enjoy starting the school day at Breakfast Club as it provides them with an opportunity to spend time with their friends and students they wouldn’t normally spend time with.
Our staff take this opportunity to interact with the students in a relaxed, informal environment which provides us with a valuable opportunity to see if they are having a good day or if we need to provide extra support to get them back on track.
While Breakfast Club gives children a sense of inter-school community, it also extends to families, with parents choosing to accompany their children to the club occasionally. This program helps make the link between home life and school life and is looking at the whole picture, not just reading and writing in the classroom. It’s about the whole child and supporting the community.
Breakfast Club is supported by Foodbank and volunteers. If you want to volunteer a morning to prepare breakfast, please contact us.
